I work in our overseas affiliate in Hong Kong, my duties include overseeing operations and accounting of Japanese and non-Japanese makers and users, as well as accounting and capital management matters of the company.

The time when we won distribution rights for a major Japanese supplier in Hong Kong. Until then we were not authorized to act as the company's agent. So we put together a team collaborating with Japan, Shanghai, Hong Kong and Korea, and presented projected benefits from information services and data sharing. We won the account and now it's a healthy contribution to our profit flow.

The challenge is not to get caught up in "trading company = a wholesaler that handles everything" and find new products. When you see a product that makes you think "this will sell," you market it thoroughly, search for manufacturing and sales outlets, find ways to add value through manufacturing process, that's when you begin to see the true potential of a trading house. For me the inspiration lies in being able to come up with my own ideas and then put them into action. This company creates a welcome environment for this kind of thinking.

Consistency From Beginning to End My work entails following the job process from beginning to the very end, from research and development to marketing, ordering and actual sales, be it for the final user or the market. Our aim is to set targets that are clear and quantifiable. The next step is to confer with my colleagues and superiors on how to best achieve these goals, come up with several possible solutions, select the optimal one, hedge the risks, and then move on to specific action so that everyone can have a sense of ownership over the results.
