Our department handles a wide variety of petrochemical materials, which pretty much mean almost anything.
For example, hardened rubber for roller coaster wheels and elastics for running track at universities and public facilities are something you can actually see. Materials used in mobile phones worldwide which have a high market share, important parts in office equipment and many other uses.

First business trip to China. We were attending manufacturing trials of a product at a local company in southern China.
We had a reasonable amount of confidence in the product we were promoting, but when it came to explaining technical aspects to local young workers who didn't even speak English, things got difficult. Before we even knew it, we found ourselves on the hot factory floor head-to-head using writing and gestures to communicate. When the final product came out good, we felt a tremendous sense of accomplishment, everybody laughing and shaking hands. I felt that passion and sincerity can overcome language barrier.

The times when you create a business model, work with suppliers and clients to develop a products and then make it a reality. Even if you are young, a decent idea has a chance of succeeding in this company. Also, even relatively junior employees can be entrusted with important tasks, handling major accounts. The pressure is great, but even greater is the satisfaction after the job well done.

The important thing is to have daily curiosity and questions about the wide range of materials we handle. Even a small thing can lead to a big business chance. Looking into things helps accumulate the expertise needed for the job. Without curiosity and questioning no new ideas can be born and in the end the job is just not enjoyable.

Especially in this day and age when overseas expansion is becoming a norm, the number of employees who can effortlessly do business abroad is increasing. The principles for domestic and overseas business are still the same. You take a thread of client's needs, add it to a thread of supplier requests, and weave it together with your own ideas and knowledge. It is a company where you can do that kind of interesting work.
